Ether is a highly flammable, colorless and pleasantly odored gas that, in the 19th Century, became a popular recreational drug. Ether was often ingested at parties called ether frolics. Ether was either drank as a liquid, or inhaled as a vapor. Ingesting ether caused the consumer of it to become "high". The effects of ether took place quickly and usually lasted around 30 minutes. The general effects include dissociation, euphoria, dizziness, a "floaty" feeling, relaxation, sedation, confusion, mild hallucinations, sleepiness and others common in dissociative drugs.
